The Label that rivals no other!

Tis from the moment the stork drops the bundle on our doorstep that the time clock starts. You do not have to check in to this job because you will never check out. Time on the clock now counts the time between the last feed and the time left to clean up the mess in their bed.
It no longer tics to gather the hours accumulated from one pay period to the next.
There will be plenty of overtime, crying time, trying times and blow your minds but never mind Mama- your outlook is all a matter of mind. If you don't mind it doesn't matter that your soiled shirt is on inside out or that the designer label that isn't on your pants, is not what it's about.
It won't matter that you forgot to brush your teeth today or have yet to pick the crap up off the floor from yesterday, your kids do not judge you the way the world can do.
They instead will be looking up to you with eyes open wide..
Ready, set, go Mom straight to realize
that you will be the subject that they idolize.
Even you will amaze yourself with the things that you can do..

The MOTHER LOAD.  Pay dirt becomes finding a dinky toy buried in the pot of an inside tree
..I could dig that the boys had discovered play dirt, a parent ly the new insider trading commodity but I would rather they went outside with their mini shovels and quit taxing me!
Although taxing my patience is trying indeed it is preferably to taxing the dollars out of me.
Write offs are the new reality. Lost and gone become the things that you finally find "finished" between the car seats while searching for your license and a snack to eat! They are no longer the bad deal you suffered or the needed tax receipt, write offs become  a life lesson to beat!

Workers Compensation now provides relief for aches and kitchen injuries
by suggesting that perhaps someone could cook for you.. Dr's note may be required for proof of the lame and the help is only offered on Saturday night for a short time between hockey games..

I was not as sick as I thought I was when I'm sure I heard the Dr. say,
Go on home, put your feet up and get some rest today, you will recover from this loss  when you accept that lack of pay is not contagious!

Get up, get at it, get to it Girl , there is not another applicant in the world who can check in and do all it is you have to do. The position has been created, now you make the rules..

Mom Rules!  Up until 8 or 9 years of age rules will be regarded and respected as law and if successful will take on new meaning at 17 and 18. "Mom Rules" will become a term of endearment enforced by the respect and dignity of family and void of outside intervention from the Law Society!
I will set boundaries and make family rules.  I will do my best to find bugs cool. I will wipe noses and clean toilet bowls, while washing pukey laundry after first sewing up the holes. I will give up my privacy in the name of a growing humanity but will hang onto my right to laugh in the name of my sanity.  I will conquer as I cry while asking myself why... almost as many times as my (4x's) 2 year olds combined. I don't lie.

Time waits for no one, not even me.
I have labored as a Domestic Engineer for 23 years....now passing the half century marker of my immortality. I have lived as I have learned that at the end of each day, my children are the meaning of my knights and my daze.
The days of the lives that have been- have been great to me
" Ain't it great to a celebrity, this life is right for me."

A Queen in the Kingdom of testosterone city humbled by the pee that continues to dribble onto the royal throne!
I couldn't be any prouder of the young men that my children have grown to be, seriously!

The only hurdle I now see ahead is the right to retire before I am dead...
I gave up the right to pay taxes for the right to stay at home and reserved the right to laugh on the holiday "they" now claim that I've been on!
Man alive..Freedom 55?

I now potentially stand at the door of Grand Parenting reflecting on a long holiday taken to places I never went....
Laying on the beach in my head, contemplating strange statements said while trying to justify where my energy was spent.

Filled with the grandeur of yester-years, I smile out loud as I laugh to myself while wiping up my tear.
All along the way for heavens sakes, I have been right here...
Mothering at the career of my choice a Domestic Engineer.

I Trade in "stakes" that should not be burned. Rarely but occasional we must return across the bridges we have built, to revisit life lessons not yet learned. Crafted of love and compassion and constructed with tools of the trade,  if we can cross those bridges again what a life we have built and made!

Thanks Moms everywhere for all that you do,
life wouldn't be the same without you !

Polymer Clay! Canes Away

Lillian the Domestic Engineer
Polymer Clay
 CANES AWAY
I just can't say enough about this great stuff.

                                    Play, Play Polymer Clay
I would certainly not profess to being a Pro in the production of Polymer Clay Canes but I would say that the making of Polymer Clay Canes can be a production!
Above is some of my collection of Polymer Clay Canes and below are the results of my favorite thing to do with them.

The canes are thinly sliced, applied to a Polymer Ball of clay and finally rolled to a smooth finish.

Craft these beautiful Polymer Clay Cane Bowls.
Created by applying thin slices of Polymer Clay Canes directly onto a form before baking, in a regular oven at 275 degrees to a hardened finish.
I formed my BOWLS onto little glass Nappy Bowls that I just happened to have in my cupboard.
The "form" that you work on must be oven proof, or at least bake-ableL up to 275degrees. Once baked the bowl is cooled before being removed from the nappy bowl form.

Polymer Clay CANES
The Act of Caning is an Art unto itself. Although I have far from mastered the Art I enjoy the Act of Caning

I have arranged the slices from three different Canes to form an almost completed bowl on the outside of the glass bowl
This dish has a leaf impression  which
adds a wonderful tactile finish to the Bowl as seen in the finished bowl below
If you make the bowl by pressing the Canes onto the outside of the form that you chose, the inside of the bowl will have a high gloss finish. BUT If  you press the cane slices onto the inside of the chosen form
then the outside of the finished bowl will have a high gloss finish. Plan according to the finished effect you desire.
The pink and white bowl above on right is completed on the form and ready to bake. The inside of this bowl will have a glossy finish.

This dish remains one of my first and my favorite.
The bowls should not be put in the dishwasher or submerge in hot water. They can be wiped with a damp cloth.
I think they make lovely little Ring Dishes..

The white clay in this bowl has a Translucent Effect.
The illuminating light that shines through the bowl is beautiful.

A Lampshade would be just beautiful.
Noted and as of now, added to my list of things to do.
Oh the things there are to do!

In between the cane slices on this bowl, I used twisted snakes of red, metallic gold and green Polymer Clay. I was really happy with the results of this bowl.

I often find myself working in a hypnotic state, unaware of the passing time that helps to facilitate the creation of  imagination from the polymer in the palm of my hand.

Polymer Clay Beaded Earrings
Almost 25 years after the first feel of Polymer in my hand I continue to knead, discover, uncover and rediscover the endless possibilities of a product whose possibilities never end.
I can't think of another product that I have ever played with that manages to mingle so successfully with so many other mediums
As I warm and wiggle the familiar dough ball in the palm of my hand,
I am moved to play..

Panel Denim and Tie Skirts

Vote for me @ Top Mommy Blogs - Mom Blog Directory

RENEWED BLUES D.I.Y.
Blue Jean Skirt.
Denim Skirt

 Cut off the legs.
Leave enough length in the short to allow for the seam allowance.
Cut each leg panel in half and then into quarter strips.
Cut off at the top of leg panel to the desired length. The hem that exists on the leg panels will act as the finished hem on the skirt.
Denim Panels for Jean skirt

I flipped two sections of the denim leg panels and sewed them
into the skirt wrong sides out.
I liked the variance of color and the improved effect it created in the overall design.
The two tones of blue in the panels nicely complimented and then accommodated this spectacular tie.
I love the iridescence in the tie. As you walk in the skirt the tie shifts from a purple iridescence to a yellow golden iridescent hue.
The Tie was cut and top stitched onto the denim after the leg panels had been sewed together and before the skirt was stitched to the shorts.

Blue Jean Skirt

                                                        The finished Skirt.
After sewing together the denim leg panels and sewing on the three tie sections, I then top-stitched each seam in a yellow denim thread.
I was pretty happy with this skirt.
                                           It is so soft!
Blue Jean Skirt @Lillian the Domestic Engineer

This Skirt below was a work
                                    and then a re-work.
I had originally sewn only the black rayon skirt onto the shorts.
I hand stitched a black pig skin suede band around the hips and over the seam before finally deciding that I didn't like it at all.

The second time rework was a third time design for this
Renewed Blue Jean Skirt. It is finally a keeper.

MORE Blue Jean Skirt

I added in the denim panels at the front and back.
I used the heavy seam strips I had cut from the bottom of the legs and the side seams of the jeans to sew down the between the denim and the rayon panels at front and back of skirt as well as across the hip seam..

As a rule I try to use the bottom hem of the original garments whenever possible.

Have you Volunteered your TIME lately?
I'm off to Volunteer at a Bingo Hall in support of the local Skating Club today. Although I don't have Children in the Club, I know it takes a Village to raise a Child!
My neighbors asked me if I could step up to help out for the day.
Seems a lot of the group has gone away and if they don't send 14 people to work the Bingo today
the Group will lose their Placement and their Profits..
A single Bingo can provide up to of 800.00 for the group.
With more time than money and with a good understanding of the need,
I will take my place at the Bingo Hall Today.

It is easier to find Men who will Volunteer to die,
than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.

D.I.Y MICKEY MOUSE COSTUME

Happy Halloween DIY
Make your own Mickey Mouse Costume.
Mickey Mouse Costume
DIY Mickey@Lillian the Domestic Engineer
Shake yer BOOTIES Mickey!
These little booties are a whole lot easier to make than they look.
I worked from the pieces of a Simplicity Pattern for a bear costume that I bought some time ago.
I managed to find the exact amount of fabric, in the perfect color at the bottom of a Halloween Bin at the local Salvation Army for 0.75!
This entire costume came together in bits and pieces as though it were meant to be. I am thrilled with the results. It was a joy to sew with this red color. It is bright, happy and easy to see...black is as I come to know a whole different story. Mood lighting, aging and stitching just don't work well.

Cut 2 yellow booty pieces and sew with right sides together at back seam and front foot. (as shown below)

Make Mickey boots

Then fold the upper ankle edge to the inside about 1/2 inch. Press in place.
Lay a 1 inch strip of quilted fabric around the  top of booty
just below the folded fabric line, as indicated by the black band above.

Then fold the top inch of yellow fabric (with the finished edge)over the batting. Pin and Hand stitch in place.

Best Craft Blog
Turn the booty right sides out and roll down the top if desired.
Stitch a 4-6 inch length of elastic to one side of booty bottom.
Stretch across sole of shoe and stitch to other side of bottom. Cut off any excess.

Gotta Hand it to you Mickey!
Mickey and Minnie have only four fingers on each hand.
Cut the gloves middle finger slightly larger to accommodate both the ring and the index finger.
Using the glove pattern (that you have drawn out larger than your hand) cut four pieces from white material for the 2 outer gloves. Cut out on outside of line and stitch together on the drawn line.
Sew right sides together. Trim seams around fingers and turn glove right side out.

Also cut four hands from a quilted fabric. Cut on the line and stitch together 1/4 inch inside the drawn line.
Sew with right side together. Do not turn inside out when stitched. This glove will  be inserted into the slightly larger white outer glove.

Mickey Mouse Gloves

                                        Outer Glove               Pattern               Inner  Glove

Mickey Gloves DIY
Insert the liner gloves into the outer gloves. Stitch together at cuff.
Make a cuff by folding the glove over and hand stitching at wrist area.

Mickey Mouse Costume

Finally draw the animation marks on the gloves.
I used a thin black sharpie.
Make sure to put them on the right side of the glove.

I purchased the black hat at the dollar store.
To ensure that the ears would stand up I inserted a strip of thin foam into the hat, to stitch the ears to.
The ears are created with a circle of the blue foam sandwiched between 2 black circles of fabric.
The three layers are hand stitched together before attaching to the hat and the felt strip.

Mickey Mouse Bow Tie
                                                               Bow Ties are easy.
Cut out 2 rectangles and sew right side together,  leaving a 1 inch slit opening to invert.
Turn Bow Tie  right sides out. Stuff gently with quilt batting if desired.
Cut a 1/2 inch wide by 2 inch long piece of fabric to wrap around center of tie.
Stitch or glue the wrap in place. Stitch or attach Bow Tie to outfit with safety pin.

                                               Polymer Clay to the rescue!
I had originally cut the buttons from the blue foam and covered them in the same cotton I used for the gloves. After attaching them to the pants I wasn't thrilled with the results so I removed them and went back to the drawing board.
After much contemplation and careful scrutiny of my craft drawers, I came up with the Polymer clay.
I rolled out the Polymer into the oval shape, used a seam ripper to make the stitching marks around the buttons outer edges, poked the holes in for stitching and finally baked the buttons.
They are just perfect and really make the pants originally authentic! (in my humble opinion!)
The pants were fashioned from a Simplicity pattern for Men's Boxers.
I added the length as needed and cinched the pants in at the calf area for overall effect.
